The University Library, U.P. Manila is a network of ten unit libraries namely: College of Allied Medical Professions, Arts & Sciences, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, National Teachers Training Center for the Health Professions, School of Health Sciences (Palo, Leyte) and the Main Library. It provides materials and services to support the academic, research and extension programs of the various constituents of UP Manila.
This web site introduces the basic activities and gateway to information, providing access to library catalogs, periodical indexes and abstracts, electronic journals and books, reference materials, and many more web-based resources.
Users can find helpful information for the University's system of libraries, including links to the home pages for the Main Libraries and each of the branch libraries, as well as links to Libraries-wide services.
Through the libraries’ subscription to online databases, UP Manila constituents have access to many full-text articles. Online access is available to the following databases: Cambridge Journals, MD Consult, Ovid Journals, Proquests, Science Direct, etc., (for complete list seeonline subscriptions).
In a move with potentially broad implications for the world of Electronic Dissertations and Theses (ETD), ProQuest has dropped the fees for those using its ETD Administrator program and interface. Previously, the basic submission of dissertations cost $65, while theses cost $55.
Some 60% of ProQuest's annual ETD submissions (out of more than 70,000) come via the Administrator interface, a service that debuted in 2003. It allows on-campus designates to vet and prepare ETDs for direct inclusion in ProQuest's Dissertations and Theses product as part of local archival workflows.
Database aggregator EBSCO Publishing recently announced that it has built in a text-to-speech option for all of its EBSCOhost databases. A toolbar, created by software company Texthelp Systems, allows full-text articles available in HTML on EBSCOhost databases to be read aloud to users at variable speeds. It will be provided to all EBSCOhost users at no additional charge.
It's not a new feature—EBSCO had used it before, on a smaller scale, in its English Language Learner Reference Center product. Red more...
